Lemony Balls

After a chat with some wellness blogger friends about bliss ball recipes it occurred to me that I had never tasted a lemon bliss ball even though there are many recipes out there. For some reason the idea hadn’t really appealed to me but I decided to give it a go and leave my little chocolate loving zone for a moment!

I had a quick flick through some recipes but they all either contained cashews (which my youngest daughter is allergic to), other nuts which mean they can’t go in lunch boxes or lemon zest which I can’t stand! So I decided to create my own. I was extremely surprised at how yummy these were and that the kids liked them too!

The dates, seeds and coconut ensure that they contain plenty of vital nutrients and healthy fats and they are just the right mix of sweetness and lemon.

So here are my super quick and easy, nut free, refined sugar free, gluten and grain free, dairy free lemony balls…

lemony balls


8 medjool dates (pips removed)

1 cup desiccated coconut (plus some extra for rolling the balls in)

1/2 cup sunflower seeds

1/4 cup pepitas (pumpkin seeds)

juice of 1 lemon.


Chuck all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until the mixture comes together and is quite smooth.

Taste and adjust any of the ingredients to suit your tastebuds. Try not to eat the whole lot!

Roll into small balls and then roll in desiccated coconut to coat (you can leave them plain too if you like)

Store in the fridge or freezer.
